Val de Cantobre reviews
France, Midi Pyrenees, Nant, Val de Contobre
As long-time fans of French holiday parks, we're always looking for that perfect mix of "wild nature" and "creature comforts." RCN Val de Cantobre delivers both in spades. Located in the heart of the Grands Causses Regional Park, it’s built onto a hillside with panoramic views that make you feel like you're staying in a medieval fortress rather than a campsite.
The "Wild River" Rapid: The pool complex is fantastic, but the standout for our 6 and 9-year-olds was the 40-metre wild water course. They spent hours racing down it. There’s also a triple-slide and a heated toddler pool, though the main pool can be a little "refreshing" on cooler mornings!
We loved the direct access to the Dourbie River. It's shallow enough in summer for the kids to paddle and catch minnows while we relaxed on the bank.
Because the park is terraced, almost every spot has a view of the limestone plateaus and the historic village of Cantobre perched on the cliff opposite. Watching the sunset with a glass of local wine was the highlight of our evenings.
Tip: Bring sturdy footwear! The site is quite steep. It's a great workout for the legs, but the walk from the restaurant at the bottom to the accommodation at the top can be a trek for little 6-year-old legs.
We chose to book through Eurocampings this year, and for a family that prioritizes quality, it made all the difference. We booked a luxury mobile home, and it was immaculate. Everything from the bedding to the kitchen equipment felt "premium." The space was cleverly laid out so the kids weren't on top of us, and the large terrace felt like a proper extension of the living room.
Overall this was a breathtakingly beautiful site that offers a true sense of escape without sacrificing comfort. It's perfect for families who enjoy hiking, swimming, and a high standard of living.
